A
Tragic Tale
The
deaths of a 48 year old couple from Warwickshire, was reported
by the ‘Metro’ on Wednesday the 9th of November. They
were found lying side by side on the 3rd of November in their
run down council house, after they had given up the struggle to
live on just £57.50 a week.
The couple had been subjected to a series of health and benefits
cuts, which left them walking to a soup kitchen six miles away,
every day to collect free vegetables, which they cooked on a camping
gas stove. The couple stored these in plastic bags in a shed,
because they didn’t have a fridge.
Last
year the husband was interviewed on television, and admitted he
had difficulty adapting to civilian life after being discharged
from the army. He explained the couple had been living hand to
mouth for the 14 months, while trying to win benefits for his
wife, who had long suffered from learning difficulties.
They were also worried that his wife would be sectioned after
their daughter was taken into care because her mother was deemed
to be unfit to look after her. Friends and neighbours said they
were a devoted couple, and didn’t want to be separated.
Local council officials said they were saddened by their deaths.
Although this tragic tale has been well published, we think their
daughter, who has suffered the trauma of being removed from her
parents, then learning of their death, should be left in peace
in order to rebuild her life. For this reason, we have not published
her parents name and address.
